Theatre Studies 101

Designed for those students with some experience of Drama and Theatre performance, this course is modular, and is specifically designed to challenge and extend the skills and talents of the students, and also to root them firmly in the historical and cultural contexts of the art form. Professional values will be developed, together with an awareness of contemporary and historical theatre forms.
Specific 10-hour modules include: Physical Theatre, Devised Theatre, Script-based Theatre, Shakespeare, Key Theatre Practitioners, Textual Analysis and Performance techniques.
This course can be modified to fit within the curriculum alongside English Literature.
Involving all students, this will be a practical exploration of text, skills and techniques. Rooted in theory, but with a strong practical base, it's ideal for those who want more than just the 'standard' practical workshop, and will enhance an understanding of the history and background, as well as current practice.
Students will develop a range of transferable skills, which will be valuable across the curriculum. These include Language Skills, Creative Thinking, Problem Solving, Confidence Building, Group Work, Verbal And non-verbal Communication Skills, Physical And Emotional Fitness.
They will have studied theory and practice, in theatre as an art form and applied their learning in a practical context.
This course can be modified to suit the skills and needs of the particular students.
Objectives:
- To study a range of theatre forms, theatre techniques and backstage arts in a practical and interactive way, using material and methods based on the UK "O" and "A" level Theatre and Performing Arts exam courses.
- To develop stagecraft skills, including acting.
- To develop and enhance an understanding of the creative art form of theatre, and the process of drama.
- To extend the students knowledge of the Art form by grounding it in its historical and cultural contexts.
- To develop positive group work skills, which will be introduced and developed throughout the programme.
- To develop self-confidence, a strong creative verbal and physical vocabulary, imaginative thinking.

5 sessions at 2 hours per module. Any number of modules can be booked.
Once a week/Twice a week or can be run as a holiday or post-exam "camp" (2 days at 5 hours per day)
All year
$1250.00 per module. A Resource kit is available for teachers on request.
Maximum 30 per Instructor
A large classroom or other room, free of all furniture. Use of a CD/cassette tape player and video player and TV.
