This is an often-requested course from schools who want to go beyond the basics.
Designed for those students with some experience of Drama and Theatre performance, these modules are specifically designed as a preparation for a full-scale public performance. Professional values will be developed, together with an awareness of contemporary and historical theatre forms, culminating in a performance that will challenge and enthral the audience, and participants alike.
The following options are available:
- Physical Theatre - The focus is on the physical - body language, symbolic and representational movement. Incorporating mime, dance, mask, acrobatics and other physical skills, the product will be a powerful performance with a minimum of props, costume and scenery, where the actors are the medium. This style is ideally suited to stages where audibility is a problem.
- Devised Theatre - the students, in collaboration, work through an idea by discussion, improvisation and specific skills training, to produce a performance where the strengths and skills of the students are utilised to the fullest. The content will be generally issue-based, and geared to the hopes, concerns and questions of the students.
- Script-based Theatre - Working on a play text chosen by the school, the students will explore text based performance techniques. The rehearsals and production will reflect the style of both author and practitioner. This will usually lead to a performance more suited to a professional theatre space.
For musicals, we have a team of consultants we can recommend, such as choreographers and music coaches, who would be billed separately. Technical aspects of production, such as set, costume, lighting, sound, music, special effects and PA would be the responsibility of the school.
For existing published plays, the school is responsible for payment of copyright fees.
Involving all students, this will be a practical exploration of text, skills and techniques, directly related to the task of creating a production. Teacher will facilitate interactive experiential learning through individual and group work, individual research, whole group presentation and evaluation, demonstration, explanation and exploration. There will be an element of direct teacher input as director. Students will develop a range of transferable skills, which will be valuable across the curriculum. These include Language Skills, Creative Thinking, Problem Solving Confidence Building, Group Work, Verbal And non-verbal Communication Skills, Physical And Emotional Fitness.
