First Stages

This Creative Drama skills course is an engaging, practical, modular programme designed for students with or without previous drama experience. It is designed to develop self-confidence, a strong creative verbal and physical vocabulary, acting skills, imaginative thinking and a range of practical drama skills. Participants will learn valuable lessons in social and personal development through the medium of Drama. It is fully customisable! You can choose any one or more of a range of specialised modules.

Depending on the length of the course, and specific modules chosen by the school, students may follow a developmental course, giving them valuable skills and experience, or may have the opportunity to put on a full scale performance.

Modules include:

1. A Start for Drama - An introductory general programme.
2. Playbuilding and Performance - Looking at creating and presenting a short play.
   Speaking up, speaking out - Vocal presentation skills.
3. Express Yourself - Creative ways of using text, movement, sound.
4. Puppet Master - Students will experience a wide range of different styles of puppet, and find out a little of the history of puppetry. They will find out how to prepare, things to avoid and little tricks of the trade.
5. Mask And Speechless Theatre - Using Mime and movement techniques, plus local, regional and specially imported expressive masks, they will learn the importance of body language and the creative use of movement, silence, sound and symbol in performance and everyday life.

Student Numbers Maximum 30 per Instructor

Technical Req A large room free of all furniture, and for final rehearsals, the use of the school auditorium or other performance venue free of all other activities. CD/cassette tape player.
