Classroom Drama

An exciting course specifically designed to fit within the current school curriculum, bringing a whole new dimension to both the subject area under consideration, and also the students’ learning experience.

In 2004 , a three term course run as part of the English curriculum for year 3 NT students resulted in the best ever results in the English Oral exam - 100% pass!

In 2006 we have successfully run this course with the whole of Sec 1 and 2 in a number of schools, enhancing and supporting the English Literature lessons, and successfully engaging the students in a creative learning process.

This course is designed to fit within the English, Social Studies, Literature or even science, history, or similar curriculum area.

It will enhance and enrich the students’ experience of drama whilst at the same time exploring issues, supporting and developing the particular curriculum area under study. The course will be run in curriculum time and will include an introduction to drama. Language development, confidence building, an awareness of appropriate behaviours, group work, problem solving and self-discipline will all be taught through the medium of drama, and using the curriculum topics as catalyst.
The course includes internal and informal external assessment procedure.

The main topics to be covered and the level of exploration will be negotiated with the school.
This course is modular, and flexible, with lessons to be run at approximately one hour, or two hours. Length and timing to be negotiated with school.

Objectives:

  1. To present an intracurricular Drama programme, designed and shaped to the needs and abilities of the students
  2. To explore and develop drama skills through topics and issues that would fit within the school curriculum
  3. To take the students beyond the traditional study methods, and to allow them to explore, develop and enhance their learning through the drama process
